I am a wedding photographer and I have been doing it now for about 10-11 years. I started early, in the final class of high school and continued there on. Having shot so many weddings I fell into a rut a year back and really thought what I should do with my life. I mean, I love weddings. I love the emotions. Emotions keep me going.
Imagine the bride seeing his groom for the first look and noticing the sparkling tear in the corner of groom’s eye (which he fastly wipes away). And the way the move during the first dance, holding each other tight but so gentle and the look, the infinite tender look of pure amazing love. This just keeps my creative juices flowing. But, there’s a but. I do fall into a rut when editing and shooting some of these images and need to keep myself creating more and more freely.
So last I took a Jasmine Star class from Creativelive.com and it inspired me a lot. I learned from her like I have never learned from anywhere else. I learned to control my shots and keep my business going. But still, so much work tried to pull me into a rut. So I decided to contact local vendors I had been following in facebook and whose work I loved. I wanted us to inspire each other, to ignite a spark, to feast our eyes with beautiful props, enchanting scenery and thankfully later on fill our tummys from a lovely sweet table.
I contacted Relika from DreamDay Studio and she was as exited with the project as I was. It was like we breathed the same inspiration. Then we shared some images, decided with the style we both loved and found more co-inspireres. We were very lucky to have one of Estonia’s top designers Liina Stein with her wonderful dresses aboard. And also shoot at this earthy-rustic location at Raudsilla Entertainment complex.
I decided that this was my time to create this portfolio for me. I decided, that if I wanted to shoot more rustic-vintage-boho weddings I needed to take things into my own hands. So I created the whole set with this feeling but keeping the images clear to still represent me. And this opportunity to not watch the time and create freely with every heartbeat got me flowing. I was creating so magical images – we were flowing together with the couple and the bridesmaids. I always keep a hand-written scenery and poses ideas in pocket, just in case, but this time I didn’t need it and I felt myself being liberated with each moment. I mean, I love different types of weddings. Don’t get me wrong, I love for them, but this was so unique for me – this kind of freedom with no time constraints and being in the whole process just gave me a kick start for the new season.
This photo session is going to be my new part of portolio – finding and creating the „Us“ in wedding photography – both the couple and collaboration with the photographer.
I strongly suggest each wedding photographer to allow themselves at least one inspirational photo shoot each year – give it to a couple who really would fit your vision and would appreciate it. And find your local favorite vendors and reach out to them – it is for sure going to be worth it. It sure was for me. Plus, I made a ton of new contacts and finally created a portolio for „Us“.
